Bonus Store Championship - Garm 3: Corellian drift

I am fortunate to live in a area with a great Armada community.  Which means lots of chances to play in Store Championships.  I am actually TO'ing the tournament next weekend in town, but some bad weather canceled my camping plans for this weekend so I am going to head down to Salem, OR for the Borderlands Games tournament.

I wanted to play another Garm based fleet, but didn't want to use the same fleet that I had the last time.  So, I asked Biggs and he suggested the fleet he is planning on taking to his first Store Championships.  I liked it, but didn't have the right squadrons to pull it off.  Still a couple of quick changes were enough to make it my own.  So, let's take a look at Garm 3: Corellian Drift!

Admiral

Fresh off his win at the Red Castle Store Championships, Garm is ready to lead another fleet into battle.

Core Ships

Last time I used a Liberty and Assault Frigate to take advantage of Garm's token bonus.  This time I am going to go with a Home One class MC80 instead.  This will give me some very different tactical options than the last fleet that I played.  The Defiance title does a great job of amplifying that firepower as well.

To support that firepower a Nebulon-B with the Salvation title seems like a strong choice.  Salvation can trail after Defiance and target anything that is damaged by the MC-80.  Salvation isn't Command 3, but I've found it benefits greatly from Garm's tokens in the past.

Support Ships

Salvation and Defiance give me a solid base of firepower, but I will want a little more.  Although at Command 1 the CR-90a doesn't benefit a great deal from Garm it is sometimes more important that a ship fits your fleet than gets the most from the admirals ability.  The extra long range firepower will be handy in this case.

As a 4th ship, A GR-75 transport will work nicely as a secondary ship to give Squadron commands.

Squadrons

I've been wanting to try out some of the newer squadrons that I haven't played with much and this fleet seems like a good time for that.  So, Corran Horn and an E-Wing seems like a good place to start.  I've heard great things about Norra Wexley, but haven't used her yet.  Norra and Gold Squadron seem like a pairing as well.  Green Squadron will give me a little more speed to go with the others and has the useful Bomber keyword.  Then I get the chance to add in a personal favorite: Hera!  Hera is expensive, but oh so good and will help push around the other squadrons.  Bringing Hera allows me to use the GR-75 to order the Squadrons and let the Defiance focus on Navigation and Engineering.
Basic Plan & Formation

This fleet is going to play very differently than the last I used.  That one was about group tactics and really being survivable with STM!  Here I think it is all about speed.  I can see keeping the whole fleet at speed 3 for most of the game.  Defiance will really benefit from Engine Techs here.  So, the CR-90 and MC-80 will race towards a flank while Salvation rolls in as a trailer.

My squadrons give a good mix of anti-ship and anti-squadron firepower.  With 4 potential Rogues I can just let them fill in however they are needed most.

Upgrades

Defiance can make good use out of Leading Shots and so it will get that.  Lando will ride along to make sure it can take a punch when needed.

Salvation would like to have Spinal Armaments, but points will be tight.  So, Dual Turbolasers will have to work in this fleet.

Jaina's light and Turbolaser reroutes will go on the CR-90 and a BCC will go on the GR-75 to give those 5 bombers some additional reliability.

Objectives

Finally I have to select objectives.  Advanced Gunnery works great with Defiance, so I'll start thereSuperior Positions should work out fine with this highly mobile fleet and Rogues tend to really like that objective.  Lastly I am going to add in Capture the VIP.  I have the mobility and firepower to make that one work pretty well I think.

  1. If I were you I'd try to get ECMs on that MC80. Pretty cool list though

    1. It took me a couple of games to figure out what to do with it, but I was generally happy with it in the end. You really have to get everything working together for it to do well.
