Team Analysis - Bacta the Future

And here are the opponents for the Church of Rocco for the first round, the team Bacta the Future.

Members:

JJs Juggernaut - Team Captain
Madagmire
Zanos

A well stacked team, Bacta the Future is captained by JJs Juggernaut, a regular sight at top tables in Vassal Tournaments, and also sports Madaghmire and Zanos.  Madaghmire is new to the Vassal tournament scene but is rising star, having made the final table of the World Cup with a 2 ship Imperial list.  Zanos is a regular to the Armada scene, having participated in several tournaments before.  Due to a bit of pre-tournament drama, the original 3rd member of the team, Shmitty, was forced to drop out due to other commitments at the last moment.  It is unsure if Zanos is flying a list that he designed, or that JJs put together for whoever their 3rd wound up being.

The first list from Team Captain JJs brings in an Imperial Brawler list, with a light fighter cover.  It comes with a 9 point bid for initiative, and also brings along 4 activations and 6 deployments.  Multiple ships are capable of participating in anti-squadron fire, as the build doesn't have a lot of squadron cover, and the heavy hitting comes from the two Gladiators and the Instigator, all three of which having ordinance upgrades.

1 Han Solo ( 26 points)

Madaghmire's Rebel list brings a fresh commander to the game.  General Rieekan, who we really didn't see at all in the World Cup, shows up here as a counter to enemy brawlers.  Balancing a long - range damage output and short range burst from his 4 ships, and a strong bid, he's obviously built this as a specific counter to a type of list he's expecting to see often.  With a the bid of 17, he's higher than nearly anyone else in the tournament, aside from one other player on the Alamo City Fleet Command (who ties them), and he has 5 deployment and 4 activations to take advantage of first player.

Rieekan and First Player aren't a usual combination, though the multiple activations and potential use of ships as sacrificial blockers gives him an opportunity to make the most of his build.  He doesn't have anything to speak of in terms of fighter support - only Han and Dash - so look at him avoiding pairings against squadron heavy lists.

Zanos REBEL FLEET

Assault Frigate Mark II B  (106 points)
- General Dodonna

MC30c Scout Frigate (97 points)

- YT-2400 (16)
- YT-2400 (16)
- Jan Ors Moldy Crow (19)
- X-wing Squadron (13)
- X-wing Squadron (13)

This might not be Zanos's list, but that isn't to say it is a bad one.  Another low bid list, coming in just under the top 2 for the tournament at 16, means this list will likely be enjoying first player as well.  It also has 4 activations to take advantage of the first player, but just 6 deployments.  A slightly upgraded fighter cover over Madag's list, this one looks more like a take-on all comers list, a good matchup verses anyone.  A list that looks built to keep a distance, but with a single Scout Frigate to engage up close if need be, Dodonna seems more for the point bid than for his upgrade.  Should be interesting to see how Zanos flies this.

Overall:

Bacta the Future brought a huge point bid, coming it at -42, so they'll be offering up first list throughout the tournament.  This does mean though, that they'll have the chance to match up their other big bids against specific opponents, and that could give them a good advantage.

They also have a real veteran presence, as all of their players have been involved in Vassal Tournaments before.  They'll certainly be a team to watch, and may wind up being the team to beat.
