Team Analysis - Church of Rocco

For the next week or so, I'll be trying to quickly cover the teams involved in the latest Vassal Team Tournament.  We're getting started today with the Australian team, the Church of Rocco.

To follow along with the tournament, follow this link!

Church of Rocco

Members:

- Reath28 (Captain)
- Swagrendar
- Jarenis

Reath28 is a regular to Vassal tournaments, but Swagrendar and Jarenis are newcomers to the scene - most likely local players in Reath's area.  Reath28 is most noted for making the Quarter-Finals in the World Cup, losing to Truthiness.

Lists:

Reath28 - Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum
List 1 total = 398

Vic 1 (73)
-Admiral Motti (24)
-Wulff Yularen (7)
-Flight Controllers (6)
-Boosted Comms (4)
Total = 114

ISD 2 (120)
-Intel Officer (7)
-Gunnery Team (7)
-Boosted Comms (4)
-Electronic Countermeasures (7)
-Leading Shots (4)
-Avenger (5)
Total = 154

Major Rhymer (16)
3 x Tie Bomber (27)
2 x Tie Advanced (24)
Jumpmaster 5000 (12)
Mauler Mithril (15)
IG88 IG-2000 (21)
YV-666 (15)

Squadron Total = 130

The first list, from Team Captain Reath, is a 2 ship, Vanilla Rhymer-Ball based list in the vein of his World Cup list.  It has a token 2 point bid, 8 Black anti-ship dice (4 with Bomber), 8 deployments, and an ISD2 that is built for murder.  Look for him to match up against lists that can't handle squadrons.  He has good experience with lists like this, and it looks like he made adjustments based on his World Cup experience.

Swagrendar - Kill or be Killed
List 2 total = 386

Glad 1 (56)
-Darth Vader (36)
-Intel Officer (7)
-Ordinance Experts (4)
-Engine Techs (8)
-Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
-Demolisher (10)
Glad total = 126

ISD 1 (110)
-Intel Officer (7)
-Gunnery Team (7)
-Phylon Q7 Tractor Beams (6)
ISD 1 total = 130

ISD 1 (110)
-Intel Officer (7)
-Gunnery Team (7)
-Phylon Q7 Tractor Beams (6)
ISD 1 total = 130

Pure ships.  Swagrendar is building his list to punch his opponent in the face with an all ship build, and has a relatively high bid of 14 to compete.  Only 4 other lists have gone under that mark this tournament, and we shouldn't expect him to match up against any of them if he can help it.  On the other hand, as an all ship list, it suffers in deployment (3) and has a middling activation advantage (3).

Darth Vader and Intel Officer gives the ISD1s the rerolls they need to hit hard, and Gunnery Team / Tractor Beams help ensure that they have the opportunity to do the hitting.  Demolisher with Vader onboard is likely not going to be in the brawl early, probably coming in on a flank once the ISDs have engaged.  Because of Vader on board, it is even more expensive than the "Clonisher", though it doesn't quite have the same maximum punch.  The benefit to this is that the ISDs, not having the commander, will be just a little less critical to the final score.

Jarenis - Rise of the Republic
List 3 Total = 400

MC30c Scout Frigate (69)
-Mon Mothma (30)
-Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
-Foresight (8)
Total = 114

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)
-Ordinance Experts (4)
Total = 67

CR90 Corellian Corvette A (44)
-Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
Total = 51

CR90 Corellian Corvette A (44)
-Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
Total = 51

CR90 Corellian Corvette A (44)
-Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
-Jaina;s Light (2)
Total = 53

4 x YT 2400 (16)
Total = 64

The final list on the team is a bit of a change - a Rebel list with Mon Mothma, activation advantage (5) and no bid whatsoever (400).  Long range firepower is the name of this game, running 3 CR90s with Turbolaser Reroutes, and a MC30 flagship with the same.  A lone Torpedo CR90 rounds out the list to give some close quarters punch and a screen for the otherwise kind of squishy fleet.  YT2400s fill up the fighter compliment, relying on Rogue and not commands to aid the fight.

Of the lists, this one seems the most like a take-all-comers list, so expect this to be offered up as the tribute, or against a list that is otherwise a poor matchup for the other two.

Overall:

Overall, they bid middle of the road as a team, coming in at 1184, and with 5 teams above and below them.  They've got a chance to make the first matchup about 1/2 the time, and the final two matchups the other 1/2 of the time.  They've got a good spread of archetypes to play with, bringing a Bomber heavy list, an all ship / high hull list, and a swarm.  Good, veteran leadership in Reath28, and some fresh blood in the other two.  Based on just that, they should do well, but may struggle to find all the points they need to secure first overall.

  1. Great analysis as always, Biggs :D

    Reath is a great player, and that's a very intimidating Squadron-heavy fleet he's created.

    A 126 point gladiator on list number 2 though? Might as well paint a bulls-eye on it :D
